Let’s Smash Tennis is one of those N64 sports games that actually holds up—surprisingly solid for a Japan-only release. The controls feel tight, and there’s a nice weight to the ball physics that makes rallies satisfying. You’ve got grass, clay, and hard courts, and yeah, they actually play differently (clay slows things down just enough to mess with your timing).
First match in, I got wrecked by the AI on normal difficulty—turns out just spamming power shots won’t cut it. Doubles mode is where it shines, though. Couch multiplayer gets chaotic fast, especially when someone starts abusing drop shots. Graphics are bright and cartoony without being goofy, and the character animations have this weirdly satisfying snap to them.
If you’ve burned through Mario Tennis and want something with a slightly more sim-like feel, this is worth digging up.
