King's Knight is one of those weird NES games that feels like it couldn’t decide if it wanted to be an RPG or a shooter. You pick from four characters—a knight, wizard, dragoon, or thief—and then it just throws you into this side-scrolling bullet hell where you’re blasting monsters while awkwardly jumping over pits. The controls are stiff, and the hit detection is… questionable, but there’s something oddly charming about how janky it is.
Each character plays totally different—the wizard’s magic is slow but powerful, while the thief zips around with weak daggers. I kept dying as the knight at first because his sword range is terrible, but once you get the hang of it, the game has this weirdly addictive rhythm. Also, the music slaps harder than it has any right to.
Just don’t expect a deep story or anything. It’s pure 80s arcade chaos with a fantasy coat of paint. You’ll either rage-quit in five minutes or end up grinding for that one perfect run.
