Kid Chameleon is one of those Genesis games that looks simple at first—just another platformer—but then throws a curveball at you with its mask system. You start off as this kid in a neon jacket, but the second you grab a mask, boom, you’re a knight with a sword, or a dude who can drill through walls, or even a weird rhino thing that charges enemies. Half the fun is figuring out which mask works best for each level, and trust me, some of them are brutal.
The levels are massive, too—like, way bigger than they need to be, with hidden exits and alternate paths everywhere. I remember getting lost for ages in the later stages, backtracking because I missed some obscure warp point. The graphics are pure early '90s Sega: bright, blocky, and full of weird enemy designs (those floating eyeball guys still creep me out).
It’s tough as nails in spots, but in that satisfying way where you keep retrying just to see what crazy mask you’ll find next. If you’re into retro platformers with a twist, this one’s a hidden gem.
