Jammit is one of those Genesis games that somehow slipped under the radar back in the day, but man, does it deserve more love. You start off bouncing to this funky bassline while your little character—some kind of neon-haired dude—hops between platforms like he's got springs for feet. The controls are tight, but the levels throw these weird, rhythmic obstacles at you that make timing everything just right super satisfying.
At first, I thought it was just another platformer, but the way the music ties into the gameplay is genius. Miss a jump, and the soundtrack stutters like a scratched record. Nail a combo, and the beat kicks back in harder. The pixel art’s got that perfect early ‘90s vibe—bright colors, weird enemy designs, the whole package. It’s tough, but not cheap—every fail feels like your fault, not the game’s.
If you’ve got a Genesis collecting dust somewhere, dig it out for this one. Jammit’s the kind of game that makes you realize how much personality older titles had.
