Okay, so Hunt for Red October on Game Boy is way more intense than I expected. You're basically crammed into this tiny submarine dashboard—sonar pings, depth gauges, torpedo controls—and the whole thing feels claustrophobic in the best way. First mission? Sneak past a destroyer by hugging the ocean floor, which sounds simple until your oxygen starts ticking down and you realize you forgot to check the current.
The controls take some getting used to—took me three tries to figure out how to fire a torpedo without giving away my position—but when you pull off a perfect ambush? So satisfying. The chiptune sonar blips somehow make it even more stressful. And yeah, it’s totally based on the movie, but even if you haven’t seen it, the tension holds up. Just don’t expect to win on your first try.
Honestly, it’s one of those Game Boy deep cuts that makes you wonder how they fit this much strategy into a cartridge. You’ll be sweating over torpedo trajectories by the end.
