Gex 3 is one of those weird, late-'90s platformers that somehow works—you play as a wisecracking gecko who jumps through TV worlds, spouting one-liners that were probably funnier back then (but hey, the charm’s still there). The levels are all themed like cheesy B-movie genres—horror, sci-fi, even a kung-fu flick—and Gex never shuts up about it. At first, the controls feel a little stiff compared to something like Mario 64, but once you get used to the tail whip and wall-climbing, it’s a blast.
Honestly, half the fun is just seeing what ridiculous reference they’ll throw at you next. One minute you’re dodging giant popcorn in a movie theater level, the next you’re platforming through a noir detective spoof. It’s janky in that classic N64 way, but if you’re into retro games with personality, this one’s got it in spades.
