GT 64 - Championship Edition is one of those N64 racers that feels a bit rough around the edges at first, but once you get used to the weighty handling, it’s surprisingly satisfying. The rain effects are janky by today’s standards, but back then, seeing your tires kick up spray on wet tracks felt next-level.
You start with a handful of basic cars—nothing fancy—but tweaking the gear ratios and suspension actually makes a noticeable difference. Tracks range from tight city circuits to wide-open coastal roads, and some of them get seriously slippery when the weather changes mid-race. Took me a few tries to stop spinning out on the mountain pass course.
It’s not as polished as something like F-Zero X, but there’s a weird charm to its semi-realistic physics. Just don’t expect Gran Turismo levels of detail.
