Front Line on NES is one of those old-school war games that starts simple but gets brutal fast. You're a lone soldier with just a pistol and grenades—no ammo worries, which is nice—but you’ve gotta push through waves of enemy troops, then hop into tanks for some chaotic armored combat.
At first, it feels straightforward: shoot, dodge, toss grenades. But then the tanks roll in, and suddenly you’re scrambling between light tanks (fast but fragile) and heavy tanks (slow but can take a hit). Mess up your timing when bailing out of a doomed tank, though, and boom—game over.
The real kicker? The final fort. You have to ditch your tank, run up on foot, and perfectly arc a grenade over a brick wall to blow up the enemy’s fortress. One misthrow and you’re toast. And just when you think you’ve got it figured out, the next round speeds everything up, turning those enemy soldiers into absolute nightmares.
It’s punishing, but weirdly satisfying when you finally nail that grenade toss.
