Final Fantasy Mystic Quest was my first RPG on the SNES, and honestly? It’s way more chill than the other Final Fantasy games—which isn’t a bad thing. You’ve got this straightforward story about saving the world, but the combat’s stripped down to basics, so you’re not drowning in menus or grinding for hours. The first time I played, I breezed through the opening forest in like 10 minutes, hacking at slimes and figuring out how weapon weaknesses worked (axes wreck goblins, by the way).
The music slaps—especially the battle theme—and the overworld has this bright, almost cartoonish look that makes it feel like a lighter take on the usual FF drama. It’s got this weird charm where you’re jumping across gaps like it’s a platformer one minute, then smacking dragons with a broadsword the next. Not the deepest RPG out there, but sometimes you just wanna hit stuff without overthinking it.
If you’re into old-school SNES vibes but don’t wanna commit to a 40-hour epic, this one’s a solid weekend playthrough.
