Dragon Knight 4 is one of those weird, cult-classic JRPGs that never made it West—probably because it's got some... uh, questionable anime tropes mixed in with the fantasy. You play as a knight (shocker) in a world where dragons and magic exist, but the tone bounces between serious political drama and awkward fan service. The combat's solid though—turn-based with a grid system that makes positioning matter, and the sprite work holds up surprisingly well for a mid-90s SNES game.
First ten minutes? You’re thrown into a rebellion against some corrupt nobles, picking dialogue choices that actually change how NPCs treat you later. I accidentally pissed off a shopkeeper by being too blunt and had to grind extra cash just to afford healing items. Classic JRPG pain.
It’s definitely a product of its time, but if you can look past the cringe, there’s a decent tactical RPG buried under all the 90s anime nonsense.
