About Dexanoid
Dexanoid came out for the Nintendo 64 in 1999, published by Natsume. It was a time when the N64 library was full of ambitious 3D adventures, but this game offered a different kind of challenge, a deliberate throwback to a simpler style of play. It didn't try to compete with the big platformers or epic quests; it just did its own thing.
You control a paddle at the bottom of the screen, deflecting a ball to break all the bricks in each stage. The main objective is straightforward: clear every brick to advance. Its signature mechanics include collecting power-ups that fall from broken bricks, which can do things like give you a wider paddle or multiple balls at once. The game is also known for its boss fights at the end of certain stages, where you must hit the boss with the ball while dodging their attacks. The pacing is methodical, and the difficulty can spike sharply when the screen gets crowded or the ball speeds up. It feels like a careful, sometimes frantic, test of your reflexes and angles.
