Deadly Moves is one of those old-school Genesis fighters that feels like it should’ve been bigger than it was. You pick from a roster of martial artists—karate guys, ninjas, the usual—and just start throwing down. The controls are simple (punch, kick, jump), but timing matters way more than you’d think at first. Mess up a combo, and some dude in a gi will absolutely wreck you.

The pixel art holds up surprisingly well, especially the knockdown animations where characters go flying. There’s something satisfying about landing a perfect roundhouse and watching your opponent skid across the mat. It’s not as deep as Street Fighter or as flashy as Mortal Kombat, but it’s got this weird charm—like playing an arcade cabinet someone left running in the back of a laundromat.

Fair warning: the AI cheats. A lot. By the third fight, you’ll be yelling at the screen when the CPU suddenly remembers it can block every single attack. Still, when you finally beat that one jerk who kept countering your moves, it feels amazing. This is the kind of game you play with a friend on a lazy afternoon, trading controllers and talking trash.
