Cyber Formula GPX on Game Boy is basically what happens when you take F1 racing, slap some neon on it, and crank the speed up to ridiculous. The first thing you notice is how surprisingly smooth the cars feel for a Game Boy racer—no chunky pixel slides here. Tracks twist and loop in ways that make you grip the D-pad a little tighter, especially when you're trying to nail a boost at the right moment.
It nails that anime vibe with little details, like how your engine whines when you push it too hard or the way opponents actually fight for position instead of just rubberbanding. I messed up my first few races trying to take corners flat-out (bad idea), but once you get the hang of drifting, it clicks. The music’s got that classic early ‘90s racing game energy—synth beats that somehow make going 300kph on a handheld feel legit.
If you’ve got a soft spot for old-school racers or the anime, this one’s a solid time capsule with more depth than you’d expect.
