Bomberman Hero was always the weird cousin of the Bomberman series on N64—in a good way. Instead of the usual grid-based mayhem, you’re running and gunning through full 3D levels with a jetpack strapped to your back. Yeah, a jetpack. It’s janky in that classic N64 way, but once you get the hang of bouncing off walls and dropping bombs mid-air, it’s stupidly fun.
The levels are these colorful, almost surreal zones—one minute you’re in a neon city, the next you’re dodging lava pits. And the soundtrack? Absolute late-‘90s techno cheese, but it somehow works. The controls take a minute to adjust to (good luck nailing those precision jumps at first), but once it clicks, you’ll be bombing enemies while backflipping like an over-caffeinated action hero.
It’s not the Bomberman you grew up with, but that’s what makes it worth revisiting.
