Bomberman 64: The Second Attack! is one of those sequels that actually changes things up—for better or worse, depending on who you ask. Instead of just dropping bombs in maze-like levels, you’ve got this weird little alien buddy named Pommy who evolves based on how you play. Feed him the right elemental stones, and suddenly he’s blasting fire or freezing enemies instead of just being a glorified backpack.
The levels are way more open than the first Bomberman 64, almost like they wanted to make a mini-adventure game. Some of the puzzles are clever, others just make you wander around confused until you stumble on the solution. And yeah, the bosses are tough—especially if you don’t figure out Pommy’s upgrades early. It’s janky in that classic N64 way, but there’s charm in the chaos.
Honestly, half the fun is seeing what ridiculous form Pommy turns into next. Just don’t expect it to play like traditional Bomberman.
