Bass Hunter 64 is one of those weirdly relaxing N64 fishing games where you actually spend more time strategizing than you'd think. The lakes look surprisingly decent for the era—moody water, decent reflections—and the bass actually put up a fight. You start with basic gear, but after a few catches, you’re unlocking better lures and rods, which makes a huge difference when you enter tournaments.
It’s not just about casting and waiting, either. You’ve gotta pay attention to water depth, time of day, even weather changes. Mess that up, and you’ll sit there for 20 real minutes with nothing biting. The controls take a second to get used to (that N64 stick sensitivity…), but once it clicks, there’s something weirdly satisfying about outsmarting a pixelated fish. If you ever played Sega Bass Fishing and wished it had a little more depth, this one’s worth a cast.
