American Bass Hunter on N64 is one of those weirdly specific fishing sims that somehow works. You pick your gear, find a spot by the lake, and just... cast. The physics feel surprisingly decent—you actually have to time your reeling when a fish bites, and if you yank too hard, the line snaps. Not gonna lie, I lost a few lures before figuring that out.
The graphics are pure late-90s charm—blocky water, pixelated bass, but somehow it nails the vibe of sitting by a quiet lake at dawn. There’s a weird satisfaction in slowly working your lure through reeds, waiting for that sudden tug. And when you finally land a big one, the victory jingle hits just right.
It’s janky in places (reeling feels like wrestling with the controller sometimes), but if you’ve ever wanted to fish without leaving your couch, this is oddly the game for it.
