Okay, so Akazukin Cha Cha on Game Boy is one of those weirdly charming little platformers that feels like it fell out of a 90s anime—probably because it did. You play as Cha Cha, this tiny red-hooded girl who bounces around smacking monsters with her staff while collecting these weird orb things. The controls are floaty in that old-school way where you kinda slide after landing, but after a level or two, it clicks.
The best part? The music. There’s this one forest theme that’s been stuck in my head since 1998. And the sprites have that chunky, expressive look where enemies puff up when they’re about to attack. It’s not super hard, but some of the later puzzles make you stop and think—like figuring out which magic spell (you get a few) actually works on certain bosses. I remember getting stuck on the ice level forever because I kept missing one hidden switch.
If you’re into obscure Game Boy games with more personality than polish, this one’s a fun little time capsule. Just don’t expect a masterpiece—it’s more like finding a weird candy from your childhood that somehow still tastes good.
