About Aerogauge
I first played AeroGauge on the Nintendo 64 back in 1997. It was published by ASCII Corporation, arriving during a time when the console was full of developers trying new things with 3D. This was one of the attempts to bring a futuristic racing game to the system, sitting alongside other sci-fi titles of that era.
You control a high-speed anti-gravity craft, racing against other pilots on twisting tracks suspended in the air. The main objective is straightforward: finish in first place across a series of cups. Two mechanics define the experience. You can collect power-ups from the track, which give you temporary weapons or speed boosts to use against opponents. The other key feature is the ability to shift your craft's weight left or right, allowing for sharper turns and more precise control in the air. The pacing is fast, and the difficulty ramps up quickly as you advance, demanding quick reflexes to navigate the narrow courses. It feels like a constant, high-speed balancing act where a single mistake can cost you the race.
