Zero the Kamikaze Squirrel is one of those weird, hyperactive Genesis platformers that feels like it was designed after someone drank six energy drinks. You play as Zero, a squirrel with a jetpack (because why not?), bouncing between floating platforms, dodging spikes, and blasting enemies with a weird little gun that shoots... bubbles? Lasers? Honestly, it’s hard to tell, but it gets the job done.

The first level throws you right into the chaos—you’ll be wall-jumping off trees, narrowly avoiding pits, and probably faceplanting into an enemy or two before you get the hang of it. The controls are floaty in that classic 90s way, where you have to commit to every jump because there’s no midair correction. Boss fights are these ridiculous, screen-filling monstrosities that feel like they belong in a Saturday morning cartoon.

It’s not the smoothest platformer out there, but there’s something charming about its janky energy. If you’re into obscure Genesis games with attitude, this one’s a trip.
