I remember picking up Zero The Kamikaze Squirrel for my Sega Genesis back in 1994. It was one of those many platformers from Sunsoft that tried to capture the mascot energy of the era. The game didn't have the same marketing push as some of the bigger titles, so it felt like a find you'd stumble upon in a rental store, a solid but not earth shattering part of the 16 bit library.

You control Zero, a squirrel with a jetpack, navigating through side scrolling levels. Your main goal is to rescue your girlfriend, who has been kidnapped by an evil crow. The core gameplay involves running, jumping, and using your propeller tail to hover for a moment, which is essential for crossing wider gaps. You collect acorns as the primary item, and you have a screen clearing bomb attack you can use when things get too crowded. The levels are linear but filled with enemies and environmental hazards, and the difficulty ramps up noticeably in the later stages, demanding precise platforming. Playing it feels like a constant, fast paced scramble to manage your hover and attacks while dodging everything the game throws at you.
