Play Yars' Revenge Online

I picked up Yars' Revenge for the Game Boy Color back when it came out, a port of the old Atari 2600 game. It was developed by Telegames, a company that handled a lot of these kinds of retro conversions for handhelds. On a system filled with platformers and RPGs, this was a straightforward shooter, a simple arcade experience you could play in short bursts.

You control a Yar, a fly like creature, defending your territory from the Qotile, a large enemy that sits on the right side of the screen. Your main goal is to destroy its central core. You have two main ways to attack. You can fire your zorlon cannon directly at the Qotile, but you must first charge it by shooting the swirling neutral zone in the middle of the playfield. Alternatively, you can launch your Yar as a missile, sacrificing a life for a powerful, direct hit. You are constantly dodging the Qotile's own projectiles and a deadly, moving shield while you line up your shots. The game moves quickly, and the difficulty ramps up as the Qotile's attacks become more aggressive. It feels tense and immediate, a constant back and forth between evasion and carefully timed strikes.
