X : Xekkusu Game

X: Xekkusu is one of those Game Boy games that somehow got lost in the shuffle back in the day, which is a shame because it’s got this weird, moody charm to it. You start off in some crumbling city—all pixelated shadows and flickering neon—and within minutes, you’re dodging these creepy, floating enemies that look like they’re straight out of an old sci-fi manga.
The controls are simple (d-pad and two buttons, classic GB style), but the level design keeps throwing curveballs at you. One minute you’re platforming over bottomless pits, the next you’re solving these weird little puzzles where you have to flip switches in the right order. And the music? Super minimal, just these eerie synth loops that somehow make everything feel even more tense.
It’s not perfect—some of the jumps are pixel-precise in that frustrating retro way—but there’s something about the atmosphere that sticks with you. If you’ve got a soft spot for obscure 8-bit action games, this one’s worth digging up.
