Wings of Wor is one of those Genesis shooters that looks gorgeous but will absolutely wreck you if you're not careful. You play as this winged warrior dude blasting through waves of weird, kinda creepy enemies—some are floating eyeballs, others look like they crawled out of a medieval nightmare. The first level tricks you into thinking it's just another pretty shooter, but then the difficulty spikes hard around stage 2.
What I love is how the power-ups change your attack patterns—you start with this basic spread shot, but grabbing the right orb turns you into a screen-clearing death machine (for about five seconds before some tiny enemy bullet snipes you). The music’s got that classic Genesis synth sound, all dramatic and tense, which fits perfectly when you're dodging a boss’s attack pattern that takes up half the screen.
Fair warning: it’s tough as nails, especially if you’re used to modern shooters with checkpoints. But if you’re into that old-school "memorize every enemy spawn" challenge, this one’s a hidden gem. Just don’t throw your controller when the final boss decides to spam lasers from off-screen.
