Wild Snake came out in 1994 for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System, published by Spectrum HoloByte. It was part of that wave of puzzle games on the SNES that asked you to think quickly under pressure, fitting right in with the platform's diverse library.

You control the placement of multi-colored snakes as they drop into a confined play area. Your main goal is to prevent the snakes from piling up to the top by making them disappear. When a snake's head touches another of the same color and pattern on its way down, both are destroyed; this often causes a chain reaction as the remaining snakes slither and settle into new positions, potentially clearing even more. The game introduces different grid shapes beyond the standard rectangle, like an X or an hourglass, which change the spatial puzzle. The pacing starts manageable but the speed and variety of snake patterns increase steadily, creating a real challenge. It feels like a constant, tense battle against the inevitable climb of the snakes.
