Wani Wani World is one of those weird, charming little Genesis games that never left Japan—which is a shame, because it’s got this goofy energy I love. You play as a tiny crocodile (or a kangaroo, if you pick the other character) hopping around single-screen stages, dodging spikes and enemies while collecting fruit. It’s simple, but the controls feel just right, and the pixel art has that early '90s Sega vibe—bright colors, big sprites, and a surprising amount of personality for something so straightforward.
First time I played, I went straight for the croc, thinking he’d have some kind of chomp attack. Nope—just a weird little jump and some very determined waddling. The kangaroo’s floatier, which makes some of the trickier platform bits less punishing. Either way, it’s the kind of game where you’ll replay stages just to shave seconds off your time or finally nail that one awkward jump. Not a hidden gem, exactly, but definitely the sort of thing you’d toss on for a quick 10-minute session between bigger games.
