Ultra Seven on SNES is one of those games that nails that old-school, "just one more try" energy. You play as this cosmic hero blasting through waves of alien creeps—some of them look ridiculous in the best way, like a walking pile of goo with eyeballs. The controls are simple—run, jump, shoot—but the levels get brutal fast. I remember getting stuck on this one boss that kept spamming lasers until I figured out the exact spot to crouch.
It’s got that classic side-scroller feel where you’re constantly dodging attacks while trying not to fall into pits (why are there always pits?). The music’s all crunchy synth beats that somehow never get annoying, even after the 20th death. If you’re into retro games that don’t hold your hand, this one’s a solid pick. Just don’t throw your controller when the final stage pulls some cheap shots.
