Tsuri Kichi Sanpei - Blue Marlin Hen is one of those weirdly specific NES fishing games Japan loved in the '80s. You play as Sanpei, this kid who's obsessed with landing the biggest catches—especially the legendary blue marlin. The controls are janky by modern standards (you'll mash buttons to reel in fish while watching a tension meter), but there's something weirdly satisfying about it once you get the rhythm down.
First thing you'll notice? The pixel art water actually looks decent for an 8-bit game. You pick your bait, cast your line, and wait for that telltale nibble. The marlin fights like crazy—your line snaps if you're too aggressive, but go too slow and it'll escape. Took me three tries just to land my first decent-sized fish.
Definitely a niche title, but if you're into retro oddities or just want to see what fishing games looked like before they got all fancy, it's a neat time capsule. Just don't expect Animal Crossing levels of chill.
