Man, The Untouchables on SNES is such a weird little time capsule. You play as one of Eliot Ness’s guys—basically running through 1930s Chicago blasting mobsters with a revolver that somehow never runs out of bullets. The pixel art’s got that grimy, neon-lit vibe, like someone smeared whiskey and cigarette smoke all over the screen.
First level throws you right into it: you’re hopping over barrels (because of course), ducking behind crates while tommy guns shred the scenery, and occasionally stumbling into these awkward fistfight sequences where the controls suddenly forget how to work. The music’s all jazzy trumpets and snare drums, which kinda rules, honestly.
It’s janky in that very SNES way—sometimes you’ll take damage from nonsense you couldn’t possibly avoid, and the platforming feels like your guy’s wearing dress shoes on an oil slick. But there’s something weirdly charming about how committed it is to the whole fedora-and-trench-coat aesthetic. If you’ve got nostalgia for licensed games that barely resemble their source material, this one’s a trip.
