Man, The Ooze is one of those weird, gross Sega Genesis games that somehow works. You play as this scientist who—oops—turns into a sentient blob of slime, and now you’re oozing through labs and sewers trying to stop mutants from taking over. The controls take a second to get used to—you’re literally a puddle of goo that can stretch, split apart, and reform—but once it clicks, it’s oddly satisfying to fling yourself at enemies or squeeze through tight spaces.
The levels are full of hazards like toxic waste and weird creatures, and you’ll actually need to think about how to use your blob abilities to get past them. The music’s got that classic Genesis synth sound, and the graphics are bright in that early ‘90s way—lots of neon greens and purples. It’s not the easiest game, but if you like weird retro platformers with a twist, this one’s worth the mess. Just don’t expect to stay in one piece for long.
