Okay, so The New Zealand Story is this weirdly charming little Genesis platformer where you play as Tiki, a kiwi bird with serious determination. Your bird buddies got kidnapped by a walrus (because of course they did), and now you’re bouncing around New Zealand-themed levels with a bow and arrow, riding weird vehicles like balloons and submarines. The controls take a second to get used to—Tiki’s a bit floaty—but once it clicks, you’ll be ricocheting arrows off walls and outrunning seals like a pro.
The art style’s super bright and cheerful, almost like a cartoon, but don’t let that fool you—some of those later levels get sneaky with their platforming. And the music? Absolute earworms. That first level tune will stick in your head for days. It’s one of those games where you keep saying “one more try” until suddenly it’s 2 AM. If you’re into retro platformers with personality, this one’s a blast.
