Man, Tecmo Super Bowl on the Genesis is pure nostalgia fuel. The second you fire it up, you're hit with that chunky pixel art and those hilariously exaggerated player sprites—linemen look like they could bench press a truck. I always go straight to the 49ers just to watch Jerry Rice break ankles with his ridiculous speed.
The controls are simple enough—tap A to juke, hold B to sprint—but good luck stopping Bo Jackson once he hits open field. The playbooks are surprisingly deep for a 16-bit game, though I still spam HB Dive half the time because old habits die hard. And that soundtrack? Just try not to hum along to the menu music after a few games.
It's janky by today's standards (why do quarterbacks throw like they're shot-putting?), but there's something magical about how every game turns into a 45-42 shootout where the last team with the ball wins. Still holds up better than most modern football sims if you ask me.
