Techno Cop is one of those early Genesis games that feels like a fever dream—you play as a cop in a dystopian future, blasting criminals with a weird mix of sci-fi weapons and good old-fashioned brutality. The first thing you’ll notice? The soundtrack slaps, all synthy and aggressive, like it’s trying to hype you up for the absolute chaos ahead.
Gameplay’s straightforward but punishing—you move left to right, dodging bullets and taking down thugs with your upgradable arsenal. The flamethrower’s my personal favorite, though the spread gun makes crowd control way easier. Just don’t expect mercy; enemies spawn fast, and health pickups are rare. It’s got that classic "arcade-hard" vibe where you’ll die a lot before memorizing the patterns.
Visually, it’s pure late-80s cheese—neon cityscapes, pixelated blood splatters, and criminals who look like they raided a cyberpunk costume shop. Not gonna lie, some of the animations are janky, but that just adds to the charm. If you’re into retro shooters that don’t hold your hand, this one’s a riot. Just maybe take a deep breath before the final level.
