Super Hunchback on Game Boy is one of those weird little platformers that somehow sticks with you. You play as Quasimodo—yes, that Quasimodo—jumping across chandeliers, dodging guards, and rescuing Esmeralda in levels that feel like a mix of medieval rooftops and castle dungeons. The controls are simple, but the timing’s brutal—one mistimed jump and you’re falling into a pit or getting bonked by a swinging mace.
What I love is how it doesn’t hold your hand. You’ll die a lot, but the levels are short enough that it never feels unfair, just punishing in that classic Game Boy way. The music’s got that crunchy early handheld charm too, all bleeps and bloops that somehow make the frustration fun. If you’ve got a soft spot for janky retro platformers, this one’s a weird little time capsule worth revisiting.
