Super Battletank on GB is one of those Game Boy games that makes you wonder how they squeezed so much tank action into that little gray brick. You start off with this chunky little sprite of a tank, rolling through pixelated deserts and forests while enemy armor pops up out of nowhere. The controls take a minute to get used to—turning feels a bit stiff at first, but once you get the hang of lining up shots while dodging return fire, it clicks.
What surprised me was how much strategy sneaks in. You’ve got limited ammo, fuel that actually matters, and terrain that actually affects your movement. I remember getting stuck on one mission because I kept charging in guns blazing instead of picking my shots. The missions get brutal fast, but in that satisfying "one more try" way. And yeah, the graphics are pure Game Boy—blocky and simple—but there’s something weirdly immersive about it once you’re in the zone.
If you’re into retro military games or just want a handheld challenge that doesn’t hold your hand, this one’s got way more depth than you’d expect from a tank game this old.
