Super Battletank on the Genesis is one of those games that looks simple at first—just a tank rolling around blowing stuff up—but gets surprisingly tactical once you start playing. You’ve got this clunky but satisfying movement where you pivot your treads independently, and the terrain actually matters. Mud slows you down, hills give you better angles, and if you’re not careful, you’ll get flanked by enemy armor before you even spot them.
The missions start straightforward—take out a few targets, survive the ambush—but later levels get brutal. I remember wasting half my ammo on a bunker only to realize I needed to hit its weak spot from the side. The graphics are solid for the era, with little details like smoke trails and explosions that still feel punchy. And that low, rumbling engine noise? Perfect for getting you in the zone.
It’s not perfect—some of the controls take getting used to, and the difficulty spikes hard—but if you like tank sims with a bit of arcade flavor, this one’s a blast. Just don’t expect to win on your first try.
