SubTerrania is one of those Genesis games that looks deceptively simple—until you actually play it. You’re dumped into this claustrophobic mining colony overrun by aliens, piloting a janky experimental ship that handles like a shopping cart with rockets. The controls take some getting used to (upside-down flying still trips me up), but once it clicks, the movement feels weirdly satisfying.
The game throws you into these maze-like levels where you’re juggling fuel management, enemy swarms, and puzzle-solving just to unlock the next corridor. You’ll find weapon upgrades and shield boosts if you explore enough, but good luck surviving long enough to use them. The difficulty is brutal—like, "throw-your-controller" brutal—but in that old-school way where every death feels like your fault.
Honestly, finishing this game is a badge of honor. If you’re into punishing-but-fair shooters with a puzzle twist, SubTerrania’s worth the pain.
