Man, Spirou on the Genesis is such a weird little platformer—in a good way. You’re this tiny bellboy-looking dude bouncing around colorful comic book levels, punching robots and collecting weird gadgets. The controls feel a bit stiff at first, but once you get used to the momentum, it’s oddly satisfying to chain jumps off enemies’ heads.
The art style nails that European comic vibe, all bright colors and exaggerated animations. Some of the level designs are brutal though—expect a lot of trial and error with disappearing platforms and enemies popping out of nowhere. But there’s something charming about the jank. You’ll either love it or throw your controller by the third stage.
If you grew up with the comics or just dig obscure 16-bit platformers, it’s worth a shot. Just don’t expect it to hold your hand.
