Space Invaders came out for the Nintendo Entertainment System in 1985, published by Taito. It was one of the many arcade ports that helped define the early NES library, a straightforward shooter you could play at home.

You control a small laser cannon that moves side to side along the bottom of the screen. Your goal is to stop the rows of descending aliens before they reach the ground or you run out of lives. The aliens march back and forth, slowly getting faster and dropping lower after each pass. You shoot them one by one, and they also shoot back; you have to dodge their fire while hiding behind the occasional destructible bunkers. The game gets progressively more intense as you clear each wave, the aliens' movement speeding up and the soundtrack's rhythm quickening with every one you destroy. It feels tense and methodical, a simple challenge that demands your full attention.
