Okay, so Soul Blazer is one of those SNES games that starts simple—you’re some divine warrior sent to free souls—but then it gets weird in the best way. You’re not just hacking through monsters; every enemy you kill releases a trapped villager, tree, or even a whole building back into the world. One minute you’re clearing a cave of slimes, the next you’ve resurrected a town with NPCs who actually have things to say.
The dungeons are these compact, puzzle-y labyrinths where you’ll push blocks, hunt for hidden switches, and backtrack once new abilities open paths. Combat’s straightforward but satisfying—your sword swings feel weighty, and later upgrades like the projectile attack change things up. And the music? Haunting in that classic SNES way, especially the melancholy overworld theme.
It’s shorter than, say, Secret of Mana, but there’s charm in how tightly designed it is. No filler—just a weird, cozy little action-RPG about rebuilding the world one slain monster at a time.
