Oh man, Soul Blazer—this one's a weird little gem from the SNES era. You start off as this angel dude sent down to free trapped souls, which sounds heavy, but it's actually pretty chill. The gameplay's this cool mix of Zelda-style hacking and slashing with light town-building elements. Every enemy you kill releases souls that rebuild the world bit by bit, so you literally see the world repopulate as you play.
At first it seems simple—just whack monsters in dungeons—but then you notice how freeing souls unlocks new NPCs, shops, even shortcuts. The music's got that classic Enix charm too, all bouncy and nostalgic. Some of the boss fights can be surprisingly tough if you're not paying attention, especially when they start throwing projectiles everywhere.
It's one of those games that feels small at first but gets surprisingly deep once you realize how everything connects. Definitely a hidden standout from the 16-bit era.
