Snake Rattle N Roll is this weird little NES gem from Rare where you play as—you guessed it—a snake. But not just any snake: a goofy, bouncy one that slithers around isometric levels, eating these floating orbs called "Nibbley Pibbleys" to grow longer. The controls take a second to get used to since you're moving at angles, but once it clicks, it's oddly satisfying to coil around platforms and tail-whip enemies.
The whole thing has this surreal, slightly off-kilter vibe—like someone at Rare had a fever dream and turned it into a game. You'll hop on giant mushrooms, dodge rolling eyeballs, and occasionally get launched into the sky by a spring. And yeah, the music is pure early '90s cheese in the best way possible. It's not the most polished platformer out there, but there's something charming about its janky physics and bizarre level design.
Just don't expect it to hold your hand—some of those later jumps are brutal.
