Sim City 2000 on SNES is one of those games where you start with a blank patch of land and think, "Yeah, I can totally build a thriving city here." Five minutes later, your budget's in the red, your citizens are complaining about power outages, and a tornado just wiped out half your industrial zone. Classic.
The pixel art holds up surprisingly well—there's something satisfying about watching tiny buildings pop up as you zone areas, then cursing when traffic jams form because you didn't leave enough room for roads. Disasters are brutal (why do UFOs always target the expensive stuff?), but rebuilding after a meltdown is weirdly therapeutic. Just don't expect to master the subway system on your first try.
It's the kind of game where you'll lose track of time tweaking tax rates or obsessing over park placement. The SNES version strips back some of the PC edition's complexity, but that actually makes it more fun to pick up and play. You'll probably restart your city at least three times before figuring out how to not go bankrupt by 2050.
