Senjou No Ookami II – Mercs is one of those classic Genesis shooters that still holds up if you're into chaotic, screen-filling action. You're basically piloting a helicopter through waves of tanks, jets, and whatever else the game throws at you—and it throws a lot. The controls are simple (just shoot and dodge), but the challenge ramps up fast, especially when you're trying to grab power-ups mid-bullet-hell.
What I love is how unapologetically arcade-y it feels. No long tutorials, no fuss—just you, a helicopter, and an entire army trying to blow you out of the sky. The music’s got that classic Sega grit too, all heavy synth beats that somehow make dodging missiles feel even more intense. If you’ve played the first one, this sequel cranks everything up a notch.
Fair warning: it’s tough. You’ll die a lot before figuring out the best routes or which upgrades to prioritize (hint: spread shots are your friend). But that’s part of the charm—it’s pure, unfiltered 16-bit chaos. Perfect for when you just want to blow stuff up without overthinking it.
