Sea Quest DSV on the Genesis is one of those weirdly satisfying underwater shooters that somehow makes piloting a clunky submarine fun. You start off in this deep blue abyss with a tiny radar blip telling you where to go—no hand-holding here. The controls take a minute to get used to (why does a sub turn so slowly?), but once you get the hang of weaving through coral and dodging giant squids, it clicks.
The best part? The sound design. That muffled, echoey torpedo launch noise is weirdly satisfying, and the music has this eerie underwater vibe that actually makes you feel like you’re down there. The levels get progressively more chaotic—one minute you’re picking off jellyfish, the next you’re threading through a shipwreck while avoiding mines. It’s janky in that classic Genesis way, but that’s part of the charm. If you’ve got nostalgia for early ‘90s Sega, this one’s a solid dive.
