Saint Sword is one of those Genesis action games that feels like it should’ve been way more famous. You play as this lone warrior with a sword that glows when you charge it—which, honestly, is half the fun. Swinging feels weighty, and the magic attacks actually matter instead of just being flashy extras.
The first level drops you straight into crumbling ruins with these weird floating eyeball enemies and giant scorpions. It’s got that classic "figure it out as you go" vibe—I died like three times before realizing you can duck under certain attacks. And the music? Absolute 16-bit banger, all dramatic synths and percussion that somehow makes stabbing skeletons feel epic.
It’s not perfect—some jumps are pixel-perfect nightmares, and the hit detection gets sketchy when enemies swarm you. But there’s something satisfying about mastering the rhythm of combat, chaining sword slashes with well-timed spells. If you’re into retro action with a hint of fantasy cheese, this one’s worth dusting off.
