SD Gundam - Gachapon Senshi 2 is one of those old-school NES strategy games where you command tiny, super-deformed Gundam units in turn-based battles. It’s the sequel to the first Capsule Senki, and honestly, it’s a little deeper than you’d expect—you’ve got different unit types, terrain effects, and even some light resource management.
At first glance, the chibi-style mechs make it seem cute and simple, but don’t be fooled. Positioning matters, and some units straight-up counter others. I remember getting wrecked early on because I just spammed Zakus without thinking. Turns out, a well-placed Gundam with a beam rifle can clean house if you use cover right.
It’s definitely a product of its time—menus are clunky, and the AI isn’t exactly genius—but there’s a weird charm to it if you’re into retro strategy or Gundam at all. Just don’t expect Fire Emblem levels of polish.
