Rockman Mega World on the Genesis is basically three classic Mega Man games rolled into one—but with that extra Sega edge. You’ve got the same run-and-gun action, but the controls feel a little tighter, and the music hits harder (that bass line in the Wily stages? Chef’s kiss).
First thing you’ll notice: the sprite work pops way more than the NES originals. Everything’s a bit chunkier, colors are brighter, and those boss intros? Pure 16-bit drama. The difficulty’s still there though—don’t let the flashy visuals fool you. That first stage with the disappearing blocks had me resetting more times than I’d like to admit.
Weirdly, the weapon selection feels different too. Some of the boss weaknesses aren’t what you’d expect if you’ve played the NES versions. Took me forever to realize Cut Man’s scissors don’t work the same way here. Still, blasting through Robot Masters with that Genesis sound chip screaming in the background never gets old.
If you’ve only played the Capcom originals, this version’s worth a shot just to hear the soundtrack alone.
