Rock'n Monster Game

Rock'n Monster is one of those weird, wonderful Game Boy gems that shouldn’t work but totally does. You’ve got these little monsters jamming out to a surprisingly catchy chiptune soundtrack while battling enemies—basically Guitar Hero meets Pokémon, but with way more pixelated headbanging.
The first level throws you right into it: your monster buddy starts riffing, and you’ve gotta tap buttons in time with the beat to attack. Mess up, and your solos sound awful (enemies actually react to bad notes, which is hilarious). The music’s simple but stupidly addictive—I still hum the swamp level theme sometimes.
It’s not just rhythm stuff, though. Later levels mix in platforming between battles, and some monsters have better synergy with certain songs. Took me forever to realize the fire-breathing lizard absolutely shreds on fast tracks but trips over slow ballads. Classic Game Boy jank, but in the best way.
If you dig weird retro mashups, this one’s a blast with headphones on.
