Rad Racer on the NES was one of those games that made you feel like you were actually speeding down the road—well, as much as an 8-bit racer could. The 3D effect was pretty mind-blowing back then, even if it was just red and blue polygons stretching toward you. Eight tracks, from deserts to cityscapes, kept things interesting, though that last course with the tight turns? Brutal.
What really stood out was the sense of speed. Floor it, and the scenery blurs past while your little car vibrates like it’s about to shake apart. And that soundtrack? Pure synth adrenaline. Just don’t hit the brakes too hard or you’ll spin out like a rookie.
It’s simple, fast, and still holds up if you’re into retro racers. Just don’t expect Gran Turismo.
