Pro Yakyuu Super League '91 is one of those early '90s Japanese baseball games that somehow nails the feel of the sport without overcomplicating things. The pixelated players have this great chunky animation when they swing, and the crack of the bat sounds way more satisfying than it has any right to.
First thing you'll notice? The teams are all fictional, but they've got personality—some feel like power hitters, others play small ball. I kept losing my first few games trying to smash homers every at-bat before realizing bunting and steals actually work here. The fielding takes some getting used to (why does the shortstop dive for everything?), but once it clicks, turning double plays feels weirdly rewarding.
It’s not as flashy as later baseball games, but there’s something about the pace—quick innings, no endless menus—that makes it perfect for short sessions. Just don’t blame me when you end up playing "one more game" at 2 AM.
